Your backups of old quake bots?

Quake bots (client side and server side) were a big deal in the history of game AI.

It would be fair to call bots like the reaper, frogbot, frikbot, omicron, and stoogebot breakthroughs in game AI.

Some bots have been preserved over the last 25+ years, but many releases and lesser known bots have been lost, and this is a tragedy.

The Quake Bot Archive archives ALL versions of ALL quake bots. Yes, all versions, not just the last release. Yes, even mods that had a bot added to them.

Over the years, we have scraped all the bot zip files (and the existence of bot releases) we can from the web, FTP archives, from spirit's awesome quaddicted archives, from the internet archive, from old magazine CDs, from torrents, and now we need the bots that might have been preserved in private backups. In your backups!

If you have old backups of Quake bots, I'd love to hear from you.

- Maybe you have an old cd with some bot zip files?
- Maybe you have an old HDD with some bots in the quake dir?
- Maybe you have a backup of an old FTP site from back in the day?
- Maybe you were a bot developer back in the day and have old alpha and beta release preserved?

Even if you read this message years in the future. Reach out.

If you don't have any quake bots, you still might like to check out the archive. There is a long list of quake bot files, a chronology of releases, a quake bot genealogy mindmap of releases, and essays that log the release history of important bots.

You can learn more about the archive here:

* https://github.com/Jason2Brownlee/QuakeBotArchive

There is also a wishlist of quake bot files here:

Reach out even if you have files already in the archive. Many bots were released with the same filename again and again, and we have the tools to figure out if your version is unique and different.

Great to see these preserved. I still remember clearly the first time I saw a quake bot rocketjump onto a ledge.

Thank you kindly @qbism

Shout if you ever stumble upon a midden of old bot files or have ideas of how/where to look for bots and files missing from the archive.

I'll check some old CDs if my CD player works!
