Well Crap. I could see Q2, and MAYBE Q3, but Q4, D3 and others?

Well, there goes the QuakeC Coder Nature Preserve. :(

Hahaha, maybe we should change our name to that :)

Would there be enough content and releases of Quake 1 stuff getting noticed if it weren't? Or would we end up coming in here, and slapping that "view most recent posts" and end up having to wade through a whole buttload and flood of crap for other games that some of us really couldn't give a shit about?

Oh, and yes, what about the oh-so-confidence inspiring and encouraging "OMFG! LOLOZ0R! U R MAKING A QUAKE 1 MOD LOLZ0RS U SUX" posts that are almost inevitable. And will most probably be coming in from the Q4/D3/etc. side. Not to mention the flame wars that are likely to crop up between almost all the other games.

I dunno. Maybe somebody should make a new site for us Quake (and by Quake I mean the first game) purists to all to migrate over to. Call it whatever. Even if it means calling it the "QuakeC Coder Nature Preserve" =P Maybe make it so the tutorials section could be done wiki style.

Even if it doesn't get many posts, but serves as a sheltered place for those of us who truly understand what a great game Quake is, who care about the game and it's mods, even where we can talk about cool stuff we work on (so that one doesn't have to hang around on IRC 24/7) without bothering anybody overmuch.

I'm very much sure that there are plenty of sites out there for newer games such as Q4/D3/etc. But each passing day, the ones that cover these old games such as Quake are shut down due to lack of time, or bandwidth, etc. Meaning that there are fewer and fewer as time goes on. Is it really asking so much to keep at least one or two of the best sites running and dedicated to these older games? Even for future generations of QuakeC Coders? For future generations of modders who make Standalone games based on the Quake engine? For future generations of those who stumble onto these games and see the dream that those of us do today?

Or will we give in, sell out, and allow the drilling to begin? To watch as one by one, each of us becomes discouraged and leaves, without so much as even a corpse or pile of ashes to mark our passing? To allow the accumulated knowledge and experence of our kind to fade into the darkness of yesteryear, long forgotten?

Sorry for rambling, ranting, and babbling incoherently on so much, but I hadda offload all that somehow

error, you realize that including other games would put us in the same fate as planetquake and quakepit

why bother reviving to "imitate" the other sites that cover all the quakes?
i should not be here

I think you're over reacting here people.

If you look at QSG where 3 of the Quakes are catered for, there are 3 communities co-existing, I dont see anybody from Q3 coming over to poop on the Q1 mods and vice versa.

Take a moment to look down the side menu of the Inside3D site, whats that :o Quake 2 and Jedi Knight! even general programming articles, what an outrage!

I dont know about you guys, but I think knowledge is something to be shared, a lot of you guys mod games other than Quake 1. You never know, it might throw a little interest from outsiders back into the Q1 scene (retro anyone?).

bitch slaps for all of you.

I predict that if inside3d is opened up to other games, I and quite a few others will just migrate to quaddicted or somewhere else that only supports Quake 1.

Sure, I like having sites like QSG where communities can coexist, but I also like having a place that's just for us. Currently Inside3d caters for a niche market, if you open it up it'll become just another soulless games site, dedicated only to what's new and spangly.

Please, please, please don't do it.

Am I really? Tell me, how many sites are there that oh, say cater to Q4 only and are opening themselves up to all the other quakes?

Also, keep in mind, that QSG is a fairly unique site in that all three of the said quakes are catered to also happen to have their engine sources out. Also, as a general rule, every Quake (1/2/3) Engine coder I've ever encountered are in general, extremely cool and very nice guys. Can we expect the same from the whole of say, the Q4 modding community? In EVERY case and instance? Even in a community as small as ours, we've had our troublemakers. (Case in Point: Shadowwalker)

As I said, I have no problem with Quake 2 being there, but then, just look at how active and booming this place is with quake 2.

That's all in good, except we already share our knowledge. It IS a public forum after all. Sure some of us mod for games other than Quake 1. Does that mean that those of us who don't have absolutly no say in the matter? Are only games like Q4 allowed to have sites dedicated only to them?

Also, what the hell do you call the qExpo event? A private little party almost nobody knows about? Even PlanetQuake was having at least a small amount of coverage regarding qExpo. If that doesn't throw a little interest from outsiders back into the Q1 scene, I don't know what will. My contention is that most of the time, most will be rather snobbish, and turn their noses up without even considering actually trying a quake mod. For no reason but the percieved age of our game. Don't try to tell me that there aren't people out there that laugh at us simply because we mod for a game that in their eyes is an old tired fossil, because I've seen them, and talked with them myself.

Just remember, if you do this, there will be no going back if it goes horribly wrong. And those of you who do this and support this WILL be remembered in the history books. Remembered Unfavorably. Those of us who didn't sell out will point and laugh every time you walk by. Do any of you want to be remembered as being the ones that killed the sole remaining QuakeC Coding site? Do you?
Randy wrote:bitch slaps for all of you.
I'd save those bitch slaps for your victory party. If you have one. I for one will not be here to see it, one way or the other, as I will be wherever Mauvebib and the others are. Why? Because I do not want to see the place where I myself grew up in the Quake Community be leveled, torn down, to make way for the hollow soulless neon idols of the false gods of the "modern" gaming industry to be erected in it's place.

Yeah, I'm not too keen on the idea of introducing the more recent iterations of Quake either. In fact, I'd rather see us bringing in modders of other classic games, like Unreal or something.

Would it be an idea to run some more events, perhaps? I've always wanted to join in one of those group-mapping things, even though I'm not too good at it!

Personally, I'd have to agree that bringing all the Quake games together is a bad idea. However, bringing just Quake2 into the mix may not be so terrible (maybe create 1 forum for them?). The Quake2 community is already somewhat integrated (and friendly) with Quake1, and the similarities between the engines are nice. I myself am undecided on the latter idea, thus, at this time, I vote for remaining Quake1.

Why not just open it up as a poll, like we did with letting q2 into qexpo? I am confident enough that I know what the result will be.

I think Akuma made an excellent point in #qc when he mentioned Inside3d was once InsideQc. Granted it has Quake2 and Jedi Knight sections, but the site is primarily Quake. Pretty much the only people who frequent the forums are Quake players, and the main reason aside from the forums of keeping it around is for the QuakeC tutorials featured on it.

However I am not opposed to Quake2, simply because it... is well a shunned Quake in some senses. Besides, before this project ever existed I3D played host to the Quake2 mod Stroggs Gone Mad. I dont know about Quake3, however I am not stringently opposed to it, but I dont think it would necessarily benefit to feature it as well.

Quake4 is an outright no, its a sequel to an incorrect sequel and in its current state would cheapen the site with gamers who only play what is new. If the game stands the test of time and develops a community of modders who are dedicated to it like Quake and Q2 have managed then maybe then... but that would be in a few years.

So basically, I would like to see Inside3d focus on its InsideQc roots and specialise in the niche market that is the existing Quake community which does know of it, and those that could benefit from it. Its what we know, its what we love, its what spawned this site.

Quake, thumbs up. Quake2, no objection. Quake3, Im not sure. Quake4, no.
