The Ants Mod Idea

Post by lynxtor »

Wazat recommended I post my idea for a Quake mod here, so here goes --

The Ants is a strategic mod in which two teams of ants must exterminate the other's Queen. I was originally going to make this for HL2, but I thought it would be better to make it in Quake first.

There are three classes of ants - the Queen, Workers, and Soldiers. The Queen is very strong, and she leads the team. She can choose which workers become soldiers, and can monitor statistics on how the colony is going. Workers are relatively weak compared to soldiers, but they are fast. Soldiers are strong but slow.

One of the main aims of the game is to collect food that is generated throughout the level and bring it back to the nest where it can be consumed safely. Eating food replenishes energy and health. (Every ant has an energy bar which diminishes over time). Queens can eat food and create eggs, which are necessary as they allow ants to respawn. For these reasons ants must collect food or else they will die out.

Each team (red ants and black ants) is nearly identical except for their attack. Black ants have a powerful sting whereas red ants have a ranged but mediocre spray attack. All ants can also bite.

What do you guys think? I already have a modeler, but animating the models will be hard. I also need a coder for this mod. It will be pretty complex to code, and I can't do it myself.

Thanks,

Lynxtor

Would this be a real time strategy thing? If so, you could probably start with DiD (Defeat in Detail) or DiD2 if MauveBib will let you use the code.
