I found this very impressive. Both this and the Delphi toolkit that this utilizes are open source so this has my curiosity.

Info:

http://glscene.sourceforge.net/wikka/DemoEarth

Download:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... _id=170007

(^^ the Earth-100.zip has the .exe ... I doubt many people have Delphi .. I don't .. so compiling from the other zip file which is the source would be a challenge. )

If I want to make any progress supporting what I want to do on the engine side of things, I need to walk through every part of the rendering and the file formats.

And if I document as I do this, I can solve a future problem that I anticipate.

I get so aggravated when high quality documentation cannot be found. So far I've found quality OpenGL documentation to be scattered and largely un-user-friendly, lacking of pictures or focusing nearly exclusively on the 3d/lighting aspects and not providing balance.

This OpenGL stuff is easy except for the initialization overhead -- which isn't really all that bad, but requires experience.
