I used to play the first quake on my neighbour's computer so much that he gave me his disc, and saved up for quake 2 when I saw it at the local computer store. Unfortunately I didn't have the internet at home so I missed out on the multiplayer revolution and the mod scene, and my interest waned.
Early last year I accidentally unearthed the discs and, while trying to figure out how to install them on my laptop stumbled across the darkplaces engine, started playing a few mods and was surprised by the depth and variation.
Lately I've grown tired of complaining about bad games and decided to learn how to make my own, and this seemed like the best place to start. I'm more of an artist than a coder, so I'll probably be filling the forum with all sorts of questions and requests for help

hello all! My name is Luis Gutierrez, I go as blubswillrule or blubs on the net though, I'm 15, and I have been making anything game related for about 5 years now
although I have very little experience with QC, I do have experience with game logic in general, I have made lots of blender games and gamemaker games before.
I am personally more graphics based, I make textures, models, sounds, music, maps, and even animations, but am really making a constant effort to add coding to that list, and I know the only way I will achieve that is with trial and error.
I started quake modding not too long ago, I was really interested in this Nazi Zombies:Portable mod, I knew about how to make games, but honestly, [confession] I didn't have much of a clue about what quake was [/confession]
but now, I am fairly knowledgeable about quake, but FAR from knowing everything.
well, anyways, it's a pleasure to be here among all these talented individuals who take quake to the heart, and I look forward to sharing Ideas with the rest of the community!
p.s., when making my account, I misspelled my name as "blubwillrule" trying to spell "blubswillrule" XD

Awesome on your discovering Quake, it may look a bit aged, but if you look closer, you will see there are great reasons it has survived, and is among the greats of games.

and yeah, over time, I have realized that the quake engine is one of those engines that isn't going to disappear as long as there is still people interested in video games, and seeing as video games are only becoming more popular, it seems like Quake and it's amazing engine and features that revolutionized the gaming world, isn't going nowhere! (I meant that in sense of not disappearing

)
It's just one of those games, that you have to look up to, and respect, no matter how old.

a classic, so to speak, but so much more.

I'm Master Splinter, an avid Quake player who frequents the internotz for game-play and creative endeavors.
I host a few progressive custom NetQuake servers that some of you may know of.
I like to work with people who have talent and integrity... who are kind and love to share their abilities.
Such things I have hosted and tested for Q1 players/programmers are: RA, CAx, CRMOD, SCRMOD, NewDM, Quess, QuakeZ, Slide, QOOP and a number of other odd and interesting modifications (including ELO Ratings and Bots for CRDM/CRCA team-play and FFA).

Welcome Splinter. With your graphical talent, you should consider taking up modeling and/or skinning and learning to make fancy games using, say, DarkPlaces. Kimp has shown interest in QuakeC, you could make a total conversion game.
Or a WWII game featuring Hitler, as you are so fond of.
I'm not kidding either, aside from the WWII joke as you have portrayed me as Hitler several times.
(I know you think you are stalking me or whatever since you are banned at QuakeOne.com for trolling. And I will allow you to believe that.

Or perhaps you may realize something deeper is happening and you unknowingly played a part that in retrospect you will be proud of and get a laugh from 5 years from now. Every complex chemical reaction requires a catalyst and very few can play that role ... Make sure you stick around to see how things far larger than "Kimp is botting again" have long been on my mind. Awesome events need an observer to see the magnificence. No one questions that you are very intelligent; you also have a refined sense of humor. The surprises in the 12 months will not be lost on you ... )
/And I can say this stuff without the 10-15 QuakeOne.com people who hate you misinterpreting my posts like usual since they don't read this forum.
