Re: What are you working on?
Looking nice Tr3B. I'd like to see that in action for the segment where you are following the glowing specimen chamber through the corridors.

Re: What are you working on?
I reopened a map I started 6 years ago. I am currently weeping over the brushwork. But I only have one room left to go technically...

Re: Quakewiki revival
Frankly PlanetQuake had the best name for it, but IGN decided it was better to decimate a pillar of the game industry, gaming history, gaming culture, and internet culture for some redirects. That still makes me angry to think of. Quake becomes rather vast when you dive into it, and that is if you s...

Re: What are you working on?
I know the focus in this thread is on those weapon shapes, but holy crap 8 Doom levels in 7 days. Is your last name perhaps Casali? Wow.

Re: John Carmack to work primarily on Oculus Rift
I used the news of Abrash as a filter at work for those who know anything of FPSes. A lot of "Who's Abrash?", a lot of "Yeah okay." and two forms of "holy" excrement. Appreciating the impact of Carmack and Abrash working together again is my little acid test. Still hesi...

Re: sea effect in DP
Are you viewing it from above? Looking at it head-on? Can you walk down to it? If viewing from above, you can just have a water bob like in Hipnotic against a slope with exaggerated changes to give the illusion of depth. If looking head on, I recommend a rocky coast line with a shader to give the im...

What if Quake had no medieval content?
John Carmack confesses that if he'd had the wherewithal - namely, more time and more artists - he would have abandoned all the levels created at that point, scouring Quake clean of medieval details. But Quake was already far behind schedule, and the artists weren't about to sacrifice months of prec...

Re: John Carmack leaves ID software
Well that was distressing to read, but... id was once small enough to run without much of a corporate structure and through the personalities of those present, but at their current size, process trumps personality, as process is hard to politicize or ignore, especially as more people follow it and t...

Re: What are you working on?
Not at all in any way Quake related, but it was a bit of a personal milestone - this is what I've been working on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecsCrOEYl7c
(Yes, I know, I'm only QA, but I feel like I contributed, and it did get me in the credits).

Re: John Carmack leaves ID software
This was a blow to me. Though I think IGN should include a disclaimer on the article about their efforts to destroy his legacy through their abuse of community content inherited through acquisitions.

Half-Life is 15
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/11/19/so-very-many-happy-returns-half-life-is-15-today/ This just reminds me of many of the reasons why I loathe Half-Life. The first big push toward the trend of linear levels where the player exists more like a game show contestant than a protagonist, where se...

Re: Features versus fixes
This thread managed to evade me while it was active, but I'm jumping on it now. As a precursor, I am not a programmer and do not claim to be one. But I do have almost six years experience in professional games QA (coming up on 70 titles). In all of the projects I've been on, rewriting seems to be th...
