Note: For clarity, I'll refer to the first version of the smokescreen grenade as 'smokegren1', and the second version as 'smokegren2'. Well, it's up to you really, but I definately prefer the dithered effect myself, whether white or grey. The white would indeed look weird in dark coridors, since sp...

Ok, I spent a bit longer on it, and the results are a lot better. I made a new properly dithered sprite and tweaked around with the code a lot to get a much more cohesive cloud effect. Wow, it *definitely* looks more like smoke. Thing is...... (don't kill me!) I think I've gone and fallen in love w...

Ok, I knocked together a quick and ugly demo of the sort of thing that can be done. Here's a video. http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/gasgren.avi Oh my f**king god! That is BRILLIANT!!!!!!!! :o Stunning . Even better than I imagined it!!!!!! I had pictured it darker, more smoke coloured, but I thi...

Note I refer below to the 'current gas grenade' used in AGR CustomTF which can be checked out at the (quakeworld) tastyspleen.net:26666, though if people haven...

your best bet is to spam sprites, CS-low-detail style (which is opaque smoke) Ah. Is there an example of this I can see somewhere? Or a series of concentric spheres. Either will look awful, but will do the trick. How awful? Thanks for the responses guys. The thing is, I only run the server, and am ...

Hey there, It all depends on which engine is being used. It's Quakeworld, CustomTF, using cpqwsv.exe as server. In stock quakeworld it's pretty difficult to get a realistic smoke grenade effect, but with custom engines it's a much easier task. Yes. As I said, the closest thing is the spy grenade. Th...

Wanted: Smokescreen Grenade

Hi Quake Gurus, Hello there!! (My first post here!) :) I'm not a programmer. I know basic C, but am a total newbie when it comes to Quake C. I run an event called the Weekly AGR Session , which uses variation of a Quake1 CustomTF called AGR . We're currently doing a little 'code housekeeping', and I...
