which is at least separated from the rest of the code for the most part, but still not at all easy to port to other engines I'm afraid. I already knew that was coming when I started the thread. ;) Usually ideas that sound too good to be true, usually are. Just for your information, the DP client pl...

Just my personal opinion being a diehard Quake 1 guy, please no Quake 2 or Quake 3 for Quake's 10th anniversary.

already done run darkplaces.exe wee. Players form their client preferences from what they like. Getting players to switch clients would be like trying to get a NetQuake player to switch to Quakeworld or vice versa. An upgrade to their existing client with a big payback would be another matter entir...

OpenQuartz w/Nexuiz models

The OpenQuartz project is GPL and as far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong) and the Nexuiz project is GPL.

Couldn't many of the Nexuiz models (they are MD3, right?) be used in OpenQuartz or would those models for one reason or another be incompatible with Quake?

Darkplaces-Izing Quake?

This is just a theoretical discussion. I've spent a few hours thinking about the DP dedicated thread and basically a few things come to mind. First of all, I think it is a real shame when years of effort have been put into something, but by quirk of fate it doesn't get used as much as it should be. ...

After spending a few hours of thinking about this, some other thoughts arose. Rather than burying these in this thread, I'm going to start another one.

What Quake Needs ...

This is my own personal list of the things I think Quake needs, for discussion and talking out loud purposes. I look at Quake from the following angle... ----------------------------------------------------------- Quake is composed of the following people ... 1. Players 2. Engine authors (C++) 3. Mo...

Re: Darkplaces Dedicated Questions

DarkPlaces is designed for multiplayer, I've put many days of work into the networking and server code, trying to make it more optimal than Quake ever was, it's also designed for modding. You've put a ton of work into it an thus far it does seem like it has been under-utilized. The main thing I fin...

Re: Darkplaces Dedicated Questions

Thanks for all that information, Lord Havoc. I understand things a lot better now. Yeah, I've noticed some odd side-effects in the QuakeC code that messes with engine internals when trying to run them with non-ProQuake/winquake.exe as the server. Fortunately, it's mostly been pretty mild stuff, and ...

In all honesty, in the past few years... It has felt developers only, and I dont mean QExpo, I mean Quake. I have to admit that last year at this time, I didn't know of the Inside3D site nor Func_Msgboard. I only knew of said sites starting in July of last year. I3D forums and func_msgboard, and th...

I had a short exchange with sassa via quakeone.com PMs and am quite excited to see that he is most interested in celebrating Quake and including others in the process. As you've previously noted, the 2005 Quake Expo was not well known amongst players, NQ or QW. Last year, I always got the feel that...

Darkplaces Dedicated Questions

I have some questions about DarkPlaces Dedicated. My part of the Quake continuum is very ProQuake-server oriented and that could just be out of habit, but I'd like to learn more about DP Dedicated. I'm naive about DarkPlaces dedicated and most of the server operators I know probably know little abou...

scar3crow, you should register at QuakeWorld.nu and talk with Sassa via private messages.

He wants to help spread the word about Quake Expo and would like to assist, today he and I discussed Quake Expo 2006 and since you run it, it would be better for you to continue the conversation than myself.
