Completely agree about Wolf3D's pistol being incredibly satisfying.

In fact, I find most weapons in those sprite-based games very satisfying, especially the shotgun in Doom. The death animations with sprites are the ticket, I think.

Oh. I thought you were making a game based around the concept, but converting BSP's into Minecraft levels is cool too.

Ouch. If you want to do something like Minecraft, you need VBO's for the entire scene, not each block.

Now make it infinitely massive and you have a 100% moddable Minecraft clone that could be 100% more popular with the right mods. 8)

You can easily do it with a gamepad, if you have one, and two windowed instances of Quake that run connected to the same server. You can even do that with Half-Life.

well whatever you're trying to accomplish, that little psuedoformat would be incredibly ease to parse and render, and other than that there's hundreds of more compact and easily parsed formats available to choose from..

I don't plan on doing anything Quake-related in the AppStore at the moment, but I might in the future. I like mobile development. I wouldn't be stupid enough to use any licensed formats there, either.

Who cares, the formats aren't great anyway. Much better options are available.
I just like being able to go to FPSBanana and get some placeholder art within seconds, even though most of it is horrible.
