Or, you know, somebody could send an email to some of the people at id software (or John Romero) with some of the ideas here, and ask how they compare to what they were going for. Unfortunately, they'd probably say that the two weren't originally intended to be related, but maybe they are ... or ...

One that I know of is QCide by Justin Thyme - http://tremor.quakedev.com/qcide.html

I would totally participate in this if I had time and if I had any chance of winning, since I want to play Portal :D. Maybe I'll throw something in there anyway.

Maybe we could do subcategories... so we'd have Quake 1/2/3 Engine subcategories under the Engine programming section, as well as just general topics right there under engine programming?

I really like Conquest , Reinforcer , and dpmod .

Conquest was one of the earlier mods I found when I showed up here, and I think I liked it because of the interesting (but not over the top) weapons, the gold-based buying system, and the new and interesting enemy upgrades and such.

Reinforcer is ...

Maybe you could get in touch with Matthias Worch (author of Beyond Belief, for those who don't know)?

BTW, is there somewhere I can upload the things I create? I haven't heard from Horn in ages and I've not been able to access my website for years. Now that I'm getting back in the game, I'll need somewhere to deposit the mods for sharing etc.
Echon offers free hosting for Quake projects at ...

This sounds like something that would be very well suited for CSQC (Client-Side QuakeC). To my knowledge, there are not any engines that do that themselves, but FTEQW and DarkPlaces support CSQC, which could do what you want very easily.

-Code Compilers
-Game engines
Mapping Programs: Popular ones seem to be GTKRadiant, BSP Map Editor, and maybe Worldcraft.
Modeling Programs: qME, Blender, etc.
Code Compilers (engine): MSVC Express Editions, Dev-C++ I think
