Re: The Dark Mod

Thanks!

I'll post updates here from time to time.

The latest update being the start of the "Unusual Gameplay Contest" today.

Since the theme means that non-traditional or non-stealth missions can be included, perhaps folks who
aren't into stealth can join the fun too.

Quake mappers who know GTK ...

The Dark Mod

The Dark Mod is a total conversion mod which changes Doom 3 into a game very much like Thief 1 and 2.
(Classic FPS view stealth games where you steal valuables, find hidden treasures, and avoid guard/monsters/undead.)

Re: Doom 3 engine release and game code

Good deal.

Looks like one of the devs has been hankering to get rid of Boost dependencies because of all the problems that have cropped-up
in modern Linux distros. One down, ???# to go...

Re: Doom 3 engine release and game code

Thanks again.

I forgot to mention that read-only SVN access to the latest development builds is also available.

http://www.thedarkmod.com/downloads/

Though it would probably be best to pilot this stuff in the current release.

The mkdir changes you've done look familiar... I think one of the ...

Re: Doom 3 engine release and game code

Ok then :)

Im allmost certain i got the showel to the performance bug also but the bugger was not where i expected :!:

I had a look at some debug warnings and noticed the console spamming messages like empty filename whenever performance took a nosedive so i did some searching and i think i now ...

Re: Doom 3 engine release and game code

Hmm. This may be why TDM 1.08 is getting malloc errors for many users during map loads while the previous
version didn't. Maybe ATI's driver did a better job of managing those legacy calls and the memory states they created
and we are no longer benefiting from this on GPL builds. :?:

Re: Doom 3 engine release and game code

Sorry if this is a self-indulgent request but here goes...

Here is The Dark Mod 1.08 source code:

http://www.thedarkmod.com/sources/thedarkmod.1.08.src.7z

Feel free to look at changes to cache and BSP branching optimizations (etc).

If I may request that some of Mh's fixes (VBO, memcopy, etc) be ...

Re: Doom 3 engine release and game code

WOW

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I'll try to stir the pot over there some more. The (remaining) coding team has been nervous to touch renderer code save one developer who's been on hiatus awhile. He had apparently made a functional LATC parser and RGTC parser but hasn't patched them in yet because ...

Re: Doom 3 engine release and game code

What the glMapBufferRange stuff does is allow you to take advantage of a VBO streaming pattern that D3D has enjoyed since at least version 7 - in D3D terms it's known as the discard/no-overwrite pattern.

A VBO is a GPU resource, and normally, if you try to update a GPU resource that is currently ...

Re: Doom 3 engine release and game code

This is cool work but don't be surprised if it isn't greeted with jubilation. Most folks were under the impression that Raynorpat and LogicalError (Sander Van Rossen!) already had 90% working GPL compliant GLSL backends and that the last hurdle
was the missing Glasswarp shaders and other material ...

Re: Doom 3 engine release and game code

In TDM the light sources are usually made of multiple entities and often combine a real light and ambient light.
To make the aesthetics look correct, shadows are often disabled when the candle-holder or torch are lit.
Various conditions such as water arrows and simple finger-snuffing can extinguish ...
