Re: last version of C::B Advanced

A new compiler sounds interesting for DOS retro games vs djgpp (code optimization, ASM, user-friendly? etc). There are a few active DOS game projects like Q2DOS. If it doesn't have a DOS port, a pre-1999 console port, or at least a smegging win32 software renderer, it's not 'retro'. :)

Scrolling level menu with separated original maps- great touch.

Re: last version of C::B Advanced

Latest compiler version I've used in windows is TDM-GCC 5.1. Newer versions of gcc had compatibility issues- even something new should at least support back to Intel core2 and Vista IMHO and maybe still XP :)

Re: last version of C::B Advanced

I always use C:B Advanced for Windows, but is there a new-ish fork of the CB IDE for Linux around anywhere?

Re: Modding Quake 2 movement

I don't know if default Q2 movement was modified, but I'd look at mods like Lithium and AQ2. I always think the Q2 player needs a brake job, upgrade to disc brakes or something :) A little too much momentum when stopping.

Re: Q2 SV_CalcGunOffset

Cool to see Q2 get some modding and map interest recently.

Anyway, that function just modifies angles. It doesn't change x,y,z. Although it looks like ID might have thought about bob.

Yeah, demo parsing is separate from vm. Good opportunity to code bug checks in demo parser :)

Cool, plus a detailed list of hardware specifications and OS. This is great for diagnosing user issues.

Re: What are you working on?

Good video on the editor. Will it be for making entire levels, or sandbox inside large open maps? Building as part of gameplay sounds interesting. Either way it looks fun!

Re: Visible Weapons Help

IIRC, someone did a qc mod years ago with manual positioning of visible weapons as separate models, but I couldn't find it with a google search. Painkeep 2 has visible weapons. Might need an engine with movetype_follow extension for it to work. Otherwise will need to reanimate in Blender or some such.

Re: What are you working on?

hdr bloom looks good with the chroma distortion. Could there be bloom that scales- more bloom for explosions and very bright lights?

Re: qbsp3 (Quake2) vertex corruption fix

I've been poking at qbsp3 and the other tools, intending to improve the v220 map compiling for J.A.C.K. The tools also work with standard q2 map format. But I haven't touched it for a while and not enough testing to release. https://github.com/qbism/quake2-220-tools Search for "//qb" code ...
