I have that thing. Flash.
Yesterday whas consuming the 110% of the cpu. So I whas forced to do a root$ killall swf_play, but that whas not enough, so I end killing firefox, and renaming /usr/bin/swf_play to /usr/bin/swf_please_fuck_me_gently

...that as fixed Flash for me, to date.

Thats Flash9 thing, seems enough to consume a good 210%... I will be happy to install that crap, once Macromedia make one for Ubuntu.
