Popular mods back in the day?

Post by ceriux »

Hey I wasn't around when quake was popular and I was curious if there were any mods that were popular that deserved custom models and never got them? Only one I know of might be fvf.

Anyways if you guys could post some (hopefully with source) if I can find some extra time I'd like to see if I can make some models for these mods.

quite a few actually, though most had variations of existing models if not completly new models.

Of the top of my head.

Destroyer, some custom weapons and monsters.
Nehahra, New weapons, and monsters. Some of the models could use some love though as they looked rather ghastly like max model.
Descent. Some custom weapons mostly used the same models as the original but with different animations and firering modes.

Total conversions

ravages of apocalypse x-men for quake new models weapons maps.
malice new weapons models maps.
shrak new weapons models maps.

and those are just a few, the list is huge.

Might be hard to find qc sources for some of them though.

I know FrikaC made a cgi-bin version of the quakec interpreter once and wrote part of his website in QuakeC :) (LordHavoc)

It hasn't been compatible with the DC in a longggg time. The man to ask is the author Renny who is logged onto the #qc channel on IRC most days. The last time I remember it ran on the DC was with mankrip's makaqu engine.

From the already mentioned mods I think team fortress would be the one which would benefit more from custom players models for every class.

Rquake team coop. I've only played it a couple times and not in 'team' mode. Guess it was never highly popular but cool concept.

Not to mention:
Air Quake
Fantasy Quake
Any of the ELF teams mods (did, starship troopers rts, etc.)
Bloodmage
Prydon Gate (or any Frik mod for that matter)
Any of Renny's mods (all good)

For some quick fun:
Transloquake
Hurried Decent
Roids

I still would like to do a community "best of" mod pack with launcher and everything.

Speaking of Renny's mods. My favorite would be The Ascension Of Vigil.
