Quake2 Engine Discussions?

Post by jitspoe »

This site seems to be primarily oriented toward Quake1. I was curious if there were any other sites/forums that had an active Quake2 dev community?

I miss QuakeSrc. :(

we do discuss Q2 here as well :) even doom3 but aye Theres not so many Q2 coders here as on the old site. Knightmare visits from time to time and barnes frequents here regularily (Quake2XP dev).
Spike is here also (FTEQW dev) and mh dabbles in Q2 from time to time also :)

to be honest, an engine is an engine... ignore the qc stuff and its all the same in the end. except the parts that are not. those are different... meh.

quakegate.ru, especially q2xp and q2bers.
If you don't speak Russian, translate.google.com does a pretty good job. At least with the reading part.

TastySpleen, It's primarily players more so, although active Q2 development gets posted about and pondered. http://forum.tastyspleen.net/quake/index.php

I mess with a Q2 fork project Quake2World, but I usually just lurk everywhere :) MH has done some cool Q2 stuff, although he appears to be MIA sadly :(

I'm still here :)

CRX is still based on Q2, though the renderer and some other aspects are vastly deviated from it.

Fidelity to the original image is important in games. At the moment my engine can draw full per-pixel lighting with shadows (like doom3) 8) But I use static lightmaps for level ambient lighting. :D

I like this combination, especially when the per-pixel lighting aligns with the static lightmaps. It would also be interesting to see ambient occlusion lightmap combined with per-pixel. But I don't know if any qrad3 modifications support it.

Whoo! I know three AO techniques. The first is that the use of mental ray (for my prof work should know) Second screen space technology like crisys. And the third is pre-rendered ordinary texture in the same mental ray
