Inside3D Forums Down Time

Post by FrikaC »

The forums will be going down this Saturday (July 2nd, 2011) for much of the day. I will try to get them back online as soon as possible. I will be updating the forum software and adding a new captcha.

Also, this is my 1000th post! WOOOOOO

can we also get a flag system on the new members page?

Good man. No talking to strangers either.

Regarding spam - how about something as simple as "you're not allowed start a new thread until you've had a post count of 5/10/whatever"? That would cut out all of the new pyramid/mac threads we've been getting lately.

Of course there are flaws with the idea (what if you've got a specific question that you registered to ask?) but that's the tradeoff and it's a matter of which is the lesser evil.

I'm sure the new forum (phpBB 3 I guess) has many more safeguards than the current one.

Also, regarding mh's idea, how many people registered lately just to ask a question? Not more than 5 (probably less). What about bots (a lot more).

I'm looking forward to the upgrade.

I registered just to ask a question.

I had been reading the forums for a year or two.
But ultimately, I registered just to ask a question.
And I'd be willing to bet a large number of people did.
5 posts before new thread would be a real putoff.

That's cool. Like I said, it's a tradeoff, and it's ultimately up to the mods/admins anyway.

Or we could simply add a captcha when you register to prevent spambots from posting at all...

How often does it have to be repeated? :P
There already is a captcha and nowadays a lot of spam is posted by humans.
