question about quake 3 license

Hi, well me and my friends are making a game based on the quake 3 engine, and we're wondering if we can sell the project, I was reading the license but I'm not clear

sorry if my english is not good, and sorry if this post doesn't goes here.

If you're just using the engine code, yes, you can sell it. You still have to abide by the GPL and release your source code, but the GPL doesn't prevent selling.

If you're using, or depending on, any of the original game's content then you'll need to pay for a license. If you really don't want to release your engine source code you can probably still pay for a separate license for that too.

Also, don't use the mod SDK code (any Q3 game code that's NOT in quake3-1.32b.zip), that's a different restrictive non-commercial license intended for use of commercial copies of Quake III Arena only.

Some free games already willingly violate this one.
