gdmx maps (GPL id1 dm1 thru dm6)

Post by Baker »

This is an abandoned project, but I thought I'd upload the final state maps, textures and sources.

This is dm1 through dm6 from the Romero id1 map source release retextured with Nexuiz and Open Arena textures in a long abandoned project.

Ever since id Software decided to sell Quake again through Steam (in 2008) and with a very reasonable price, the idea of making a "free" Quake-like project seems pointless to me. But it did get me interested in engine modification and modding in general.

They are fairly ok with a few missing textures and some of the wrong size (with screenshots cleverly concealing the missing sky textures). Either way, it's been a long time since I abandoned the idea and I thought I'd upload the final state of it. I had never bothered to properly WAD the maps, but since textures2quake makes that easy, I did that little part tonight to draw that old project to a final close.

Textures look nice, the levels seem a bit more futuristic, and I'd say they lost their magic atmosphere. Nonetheless they look great.

I'll download and give 'em a shot. Thanks Baker!
