Ok, since no one has stepped forward yet. I will update this topic when information flows in. I'm going to make the first move.
what year? I've heard talk about people wanting to do this in 2005, because of the 2 year rule. Last one was held in June of 2003. I've also heard talk about waiting until the 10th anniversary of Quake. What would the community want? I, or someone else, will start polls in the General Discussion being that more people check that regularly.
can anyone contact SantaClaws to sort out scripting use from last year. he was asked to make the scripts usable for later Expos
what time frame are we thinking of using? I believe we did it Mid-July the first 2 times. Week long event.
Volunteers in the following areas:
 1-3 news reporters
 possible script writers if we cannot use the ones from previous Expos.

An interesting point. Has the time come to heal the rift by opening the Qexpo to a wider selection of games, or do we keep the faith and make it a celebration of all things Q1.
Personally, I dont play Q2, and I don't really know all that much about the q2 modding scene. Is is bigger or smaller than us? If it's significantly larger then I'd probably be against inclusion in the Qexpo, as I'd personally like to keep Q1 as the main focus. However, if it's only small, or it looks like we're only gonna end up with a very small number of booths due to the atrition that has taken place over the years, perhaps we should open our borders.
Qexpo 2003 was significantly smaller than 2001. 2005 will certainly be smaller again. Maybe allowing Q2 in would boost the numbers and make it more exciting, or maybe it'll swamp us. I really don't know.
Since many modern Q1 engines allow md2 models etc, the border between the two games is thinner than ever.
Allowing Q2 in might be a good thing, as it would make Qexpo a bigger event, and wouldn't really interfere with those of us who don't play Q2, as noone is forcing us to visit every booth.
However, it would mean we'd need some Q2 people on the organising team, for organising the speed events or whatever.
It's a real tricky one this, I'm torn between keeping the faith and making the Qexpo bigger.
Is allowing Q2 in selling out?

I'm for allowing the Q2 community in, from what I've seen the two communities are about equal in activity.
Another reason why is that if both communities have booths, it might result in getting more of the die hards of either game to try something from the other game. This could result in another active modder for either game, so both communities have a chance to gain from this.

aut viam inveniam aut faciam
That's actually a good idea. The expo is for both Quakes this year, and then Quake1 has its personal expo on the 10th anniversary.
How does everyone else feel about that?

When my computer inevitably explodes and kills me, my cat inherits everything I own. He may be the only one capable of continuing my work.
Sure sounds good.
I like to think of QExpo as a convention for ALL quake coders
and mod makers to share ideas and display their works.
It may have started as a quake1 expo only but that was b4 q2 source was released. I dont play/code for q2 but I think they need support aswell. If they had a q2expo on another date entirely then it would stretch the community out too far. I think some coding can be shared by both engines in both camps in 1 expo
And also, 10th anniv. NEEDS to be a QuakeExpo special for quake1!
The theme? how about: X (roman numeral ten)...how that can be used it up to the coders I already have a logo idea
