@cocot

At func, 20-30 people are just waiting for whoever the "leader" is to just make it clear and official.

Quite a few people have projects.

That particular thread had numerous people waiting for someone to take charge ...

And waiting ...

And waiting ...

And I think it got frustrating because various "yappers" unwilling to step to the plate kept offering "ideas".

Just make it loud and clear and start a new thread there and everyone will fall in line.

@Ceriux : Yeah, I felt the same way :)

@Baker: Yeah, I can totally see that. I think I'd want to wait for QBism to tell us what exactly (s)he can commit to (to make sure we have at least a vague platform to start with), then go ahead and do that. Maybe Spirit might also decide to get back in the game? :)

@QBism: No pressure, by the way. I can't exactly be saying I can't commit to organizing it and simply expect others to. If that doesn't work out, we'll keep on searching for someone to be able to commit.

The prototype has turned out well enough that I can commit to build the site. I wanted to be conservative and feel out if this was duplicated effort, especially if anyone was going hard-core and resurrecting classic expo script.

Thinking hard about the dates... One factor is that Quakecon (August 4-7) is featuring a Quakeworld tournament that could generate interest. The expo could jump ahead of that and still have enough time to get projects together. Late August/ early September is when students are going back (or the kids of some of you old folk  ) and that may be an issue.

Are there any major objections to moving things up a bit-
June 15 EDIT -move up to May 14: registration opens. This will give a few days to work out kinks and start momentum by the time actual anniversary hits (June 22) in case news blurbs bring visitors.

Saturday, July 16 to Saturday, July 30: qexpo. That's two solid months to get projects and events together, and will maybe catch some draft off quakecon interest. This was a successful slot for the 2006 qexpo IIRC.

Prior to qexpo, events scheduling will be active. Also "info" booths or articles could be released for newcomers- where to buy Quake, where to get maps and mods, multiplayer, etc. Some items could be redundant with info already out there, just presenting multiple facets.

Also prior there will be a "booth teaser" category, so visitors can see intended booths, and booths get some advance anticipation.

And of course there could be mapping or mod events a week or two in advance, with results announced at the expo.

...some would want to set dates even sooner, but limited free time... like everyone

This sounds great to me.

As far as dates are concerned, I know some people really want it to coincide with the actual anniversary (or at least closer). I, like you, feel that we need to give everyone (including me) a fair shot at getting a little something out and, with such a short warning, I'd aim for as late in the Summer as possible. If people have things done earlier, great - they may even be allowed to release it earlier if they really want it. The dates you give are a little early for me but, as the person who is setting things in motion, you should absolutely have the right to make your preference really count, QBism. So, yeah, I personally will make mid to end July totally work :)

P.S: I answered your pm ;-)

The proposed schedule sounds great do me. I will try to prepare something for the event.
I know FrikaC made a cgi-bin version of the quakec interpreter once and wrote part of his website in QuakeC :) (LordHavoc)

Excellent!
I think it will help psychologically to move the registration up even more and give a true 2 months before expo. Updated schedule above. It can be ready May 14. Sorry for any additional time pressure the July timeframe may cause, but hopefully this schedule is a good compromise. Let's call it official!

CocoT, check your box

If anyone would like to volunteer, or just kick the tires on the site, please PM me.

Site roles needing volunteers: moderator, editor, news posters, FAQ/ help booth guru. The editor will help booth authors and release booths for posting at the start of the expo.

@qbism --- you should message ArrCee at QuakeOne to make your post into a news item.

Thanks, I've contacted him.

Is anyone here involved/familiar with the QuakeWorld sites? It would be good to post about the expo on news/forums. You can see what I wrote at QuakeOne (and probably do better...) http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-talk/e ... quake.html

I also did hit up tastyspleen, leray board ( both q2) and quake3world in the 'classic' forum section. I also plan to attempt to contact previous qexpo organizers for a few words or recollections to post, just haven't got around to it yet. I know at least a couple are around here

Finally, has anyone archived qexpo 2001, which I believe was the first one? I have found links for all the others:

https://www.quaddicted.com/webarchive/e ... x.php.html 2011

http://qexpo.tastyspleen.net 2008

https://web.archive.org/web/20061206011 ... keexpo.com 2006 (I remember seeing a non-archive.org mirror somewhere)

https://web.archive.org/web/20051214041 ... akedev.com 2005

2001 Quake expo ... methinks

Quakeworld.nu is really the only Quakeworld forum of note (that I know of).

CocoT was there!
I'm oooooooold.

Also, from the site:
After "thank you's", I think I should also give out some "go to hell's", so you guys know which news sites to avoid from now on. I'm not going to mention small-to-medium sites (because these ones do not always update regularly and they aren't professional sites, so I "forgive" them). But ... I'd like to say to Telefragged, Joystick.fr, Stomped, Quake.de, Besmella-Quake, Extreme-Players.de and the Challenge sites that well, it's too bad (for them) that QExpo went on so well because now, they definitely look *very* uncool for deciding to ignore it and the press release made about it.
Not bitter at all.

Stomped... gone.
Telefragged... gone.
etc. etc. ...gone.
CocoT.... still here. Connection?

The site is open! https://qexpo2016.com/ Anyone may register. For people who don't intend to create a booth or event, all site members may post in the activity stream, comment on booths and news, and participate in groups.

...well, I HOPE CocoT is around somewhere.

June seems to be starting off slowly in the Quake scene as those in the northern hemisphere start to notice that round orange light in the sky a bit more. In hopes of gleaning more interest, https://qexpo2016.com will start posting Booth Previews starting June 18. So nobody has that massive pressure of creating a booth yet... just a couple sentences and a screenshot.

Ok, I've tried to figure out how to post a booth preview, or create a booth, but it's highly un-intuitive as how to do it. Frustrating.
