Can a colormap be saved in a wad? An image representation could, but not the thing itself AFAIK.hogsy wrote: it seems the colormap and palette were saved in the init.wad however they're still not right for the map. There's no other palette or colormap.

In regular Quake the pallete goes on pallete.lmp, does this file exists in Daikatana ?
I know FrikaC made a cgi-bin version of the quakec interpreter once and wrote part of his website in QuakeC

Not sure what you'd need as an example.
For your BSP loader you'd most likely adjust the dheader_t structure (most likely by adding or changing the #define constants I listed), and modify your BSP texture loader to use the palette referenced in the new lump entry index (i.e. header->lumps[LUMP_PALETTE]).
