Server browser for WinQuake/FitzQuake/others

Postby JasonX » Thu Sep 09, 2010 2:05 am

I've seen some server browsers for DP and FTE, but never seen one for other engines or even vanilla Quake. Any links? :D

Links to what?

ProQuake has one iirc.

Links to some engines or implementations that i might have missed.

Do you know if ProQuake server browser depends on any library?

libcurl.dll

But I've been lazy and haven't re-coded it yet, so there is no publicly released implementation ... yet.

I haven't bothered to polish it up and give it hardcore testing yet.

That being said, attempting to use the unmodified network code in either WinQuake or FitzQuake is gonna be a trail of tears but the NAT fix is a solid start.

Not exactly a server browser, is it? Just opens servers from a local list, not a master server.

NetQuake doesn't have a master server.

gameaholic kinda has one, in the form of a text file on a website. There's not really much difference other than that. Servers will be poked to see if they're up regardless of how you get the list.

The "difficult" part i was looking for was the actual GUI, for listing and joining servers.

GUI should be easy, you could adapt something from the menu code. Take the Single Player Save/Load menus as a starting point, for example.
