Hipnotic Hackery - Windows
The Scourge of Armagon mission pack is full of nasty little unpleasant hacks, but this one might not be so well known. It seems as though they had, at some point, attempted to make windows!
Look at those textures to either side closely and you'll see that they actually have a stipple pattern in them, with palette entry 255 alternating with the regular texture pattern.
Now turn r_drawentities off and you'll see lots of little particle effects going on behind them; these things were clearly meant to be seen through, but unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) they never worked, not even in software Quake.
Is it worth supporting these properly in an engine I wonder? If a hack never even worked properly to begin with, is it a feature that must be fixed?

We had the power, we had the space, we had a sense of time and place

those 'particle effects' are laser shooters dying.
they have dlights on them
dlights that are meant to have small blobs that light the 'windows' that you can actually see.
sounds like you changed your dlight radius?

No, the dynamic lights are there, there's no question about that. I'm well aware of what's causing them too. It just seems quite odd that such an elaborate setup would be done without being meant to be seen.
Further experiments on this one show that it's actually not palette entry 255, so I guess it's kinda silly anyway. Silly, but still damn odd.
