what is CSQC?

Postby Freemanoid » Wed May 13, 2009 8:33 am

Sorry for this question but I cannot understand what is CSQC? Is it engine or something like improved source code of quake1(progs.dat)? Where can I download it?

CSQC (Client Side Quake C), distributed in the form of a csprogs.dat is an engine extension to permit running game code clientside.
It can be used to improve mods, expanding graphical options in the client. On its own it provides nothing.
Its installed on the server, and automatically downloaded/enabled via the server. If the server does not have one, its not usable locally.

If you just want to play quake, downloading a csprogs.dat gives you nothing (worse, if you get one from the wrong mod, things can blow up).

If you're using FTEQW as a client and playing on a server that uses a csprogs.dat, go to the console and type 'set allow_download_csprogs 1' and reconnect. FTE will then auto-download one from the server.
I believe DarkPlaces will always download.
At this time there are no other engines that support csqc.

CSQC tutorials are only useful for DarkPlaces or FTEQW development, as only those engines have CSQC support. Think of it as completely different to normal qc; one can't be used for the other.

If you can get FTE or DP to compile for PPC then you might be in luck. However, I'm not too knowledgeable on the specifics of compiling outside of win/nix.
