Adding support for the mission packs.

Postby Senban » Wed Jun 18, 2008 8:47 pm

I really like the idea of adding support for the mission packs to my (existing) mod. I'm not going to do the weapons as I'm happy with the way weapons work in the mod I'm building and adding all the weapons from both mods seems like it would bring on massive headaches, but I'd like to be able to run the levels and have all the monsters and hopefully the power-ups too if I can find space in the item list for them. My question is have any of you done this yourselves and what sort of pitfalls should I expect?

Both the sources for the expansion packs should be available, but merging the two would involve a lot of work, I doubt anyone has done it thus far. I haven't seen it, anyway. Can't think of any particular pitfalls besides it being a lot of work, and you'll probably overlook a lot of trivial things which end up breaking certain maps and so. All I can say is good luck :)

The thing I'm most worried about is things turning out to be mutually exclusive. I'll say now that I'm going to wait till I've got some serious feed back before I start out on a project as potentially mind bending as this.
There is a DarkPlaces mod called Kleshik that runs both at once but I can't see much about it online, it just seem's to exist without any explanation for itself, which is a shame because it seems to be the most advanced bit of modding to come out in ages.

Kleshik is made by Dresk who can be found in #darkplaces, soliciting newbies for unfavorable favors.

And yeah, little online info, though he seems always eager to discuss it (and play it). Just use the i3d java chat client and once online do /join #darkplaces

If he isn't responding, he's probably at work.
