DarkPlaces won't load .obj model textures

I exported a textured and UV-mapped model from Blender as an .obj file, and it shows up fine when I view it in Noesis (had to flip the texture vertically though). When I load it to DarkPlaces through QuakeC, the whole model shows up as black. There are no error messages on the console output, and the engine seems to load the texture successfully (I get errors if I remove the texture file). How can I fix this?
