Is it for Quake or homework?
I did not understand all of it, what you wrote, but some of it yes.
I wont solve it for you, I will give you hints, ok?
HINTS
1. express your knowns and unknows
2. you have angle so you probably will make use of some, sinus, cosinus, tangens or cotangens
there you have angle, distance on the ground and you want to know height
if you draw it with right angles you will see it is cosinus
you express cosinus and play with it ...

HINTS
1. express your knowns and unknows
- distance to first position
distance to second position = distance to first + 30
...

Think, touch, movetype, solid, traceline ...

NOOOOOOOO.
NO captchas PLEASE.
nooo.
Just read the memberlist and look for urls in the recently joined and 1 0 post users. That would catch most of them.
It would be sweet to give trusted users a mark as spam for review option in the memberlist. I'd love to be able to do that.
But seriously, for the love of god PLEASE do not put a captcha in I3D.
Unless its just to join.

Of course it will be just to join. I mean these spambots join and screw around. if we can stop them from joining in the first place, we wouldn't have to deal with Nike marketers and retarded pyramid questions..
oh and btw why are you so against captchas?

I3D already has a bot prevention mechanism and a really nice one: profile.php?mode=register&agreed=true (you need to log out first)
