Your top 5 favorite quake mods by others
No including your own mods in this topic. Anyways, simply what are your top 5 favorite Quake mods / Total Conversions? Feel free to give reasons or not.
1. Slide - Fun racing game, I love beating my top scores and destroying people online perfecting turns as well as blowing them away with rockets when least expected.
2. Prydon Gate - Quake and Diablo gameplay mixed together are two of my favorite things, less grinding in Harb's quest would of been nice however.
3. Feral Flesh - Closest online MMO RPG we've seen in Quake but not only that it's fun to explore the land and upgrade your character, I just wish it had more content in it.
4. Quake Rally - Same reason as Slide, but I prefers slide's controls and courses more however this is a tad more innovative (especially Gold Cup with bots).
5. RuneQuake - Chillo got me into it and we played it cooperative with others, new maps and challenging gameplay with smart monsters and powers was some of the most fun I've had with Quake lately.
That's it from me.

I haven't played many of them but.. in no particular order...
Prydon Gate
Quess or Monster CHess or whatever it's called
TAOV was impressive I guess...
That QW mod we used to play where you shoot bugs was pretty fun (something something:tactical defense)
id1 is pretty good... (sorry dpmod, but I prefer id1)
I probably forgot a few big ones...

Sajt: Starship Troopers: Tactical Defense. Didn't you make a map or two for Tactical Defense? Does that count as "your own mod"? Where can one draw the line? Just wondering cause I worked a lot on TD, and I'd definitely list it among the top if I could. It was officially Renni's mod. I sorta worked on Prydon too.
Generally speaking though, this is a tough one, I'll have to give it some thought. It's sad how many mods I've practically missed. For example I've really wanted to play some feral flesh, but haven't had time.
And the grind in Harb's episode was awesome! A little tough when alone, but that only inspired one to play with friends anyway (coop with LH, Frik, Harb and Mauve rocks)
EDIT:
- Prydon Gate: The most addictive shit like ever. Go diablo-stylee!
- Tactical Defense: Brilliantly simple and cool survival multiplayer mod for QW.
- Nehahra: Awesome, even though unholy. Gotta love the new assassin monsters with sprockets, now that's scary stuff. id Software (among others) have a lot to learn when it comes to scary. It also housed one of the few bosses ever in any game I've played who mattered more than just something tougher to kill.
- AirQuake: to be honest it was some sort of derivate of AirQuake I played, which had some weird starwars ep1 looking podracers instead of airplanes, and with plasmaguns and such. Great duels at lans with friends, made some unreleased maps for it.
- Team Fortress: I actually hate team-fortress, but I had so much fun with it at lans at school when younger, so I guess I'll have to pick it cause I can't think of anything else equally good right now.
Honorable mentions: Zerstörer, Fiend Hunter (scare-y), TaoV (make more consecutive maps goddammit), Codename games (go renni), Target Quake, wee2 (not for weak hearts), dpmod, and much much more that I can't think of right now...

In no particular order and highly variable:
1. PerQuake (Because it's the only complete quake weapon replacement mod that I can think of and actually liked)
2. Fiend Hunter (Back in the versions when it was good)
3. Lechef / Troopeux (Shared because they are somewhat alike)
4. OUM (Despite the zerstorer-esque ending, at least you got to fight the end boss)
5. FrikBot X (Because I never play online, and it's totally badassed)
Nowadays I rarely play any third party mods. (Meaning I only play my own mods. How's that for egotism?

SlowMo
Fiend Hunter
FrikBotX
Operation Urth Majik
Quess
It's funny that there's other mods that I admire as much or more from a mod-making point of view, but purely from a playing point of view those 5 I enjoyed most.
Although it'll change in a few weeks I reckons.

Nice topic!
Trying to avoid some the really obvious ones like TF, 3WCTF and Prydon Gate..
Vile - Simple but effective
Fiend Hunter - It's a shame Xoltan never released the qc source for this, but aside from that rooms of burning fiends == bliss
Tanx - It badly needs an update though, last time I tried to play it it was quite broken in recent versions of DP : /
Minion Arena - From a game design point of view I like Minion more, but it was a combination of Minion Arena and Coffee's tutorials that got me interested in modding, so MA holds a special place in my heart. =)
Chapter Honour - Another mod that I wish I could poke around in the source someday, any attempt to faithfully translate a tabletop game (in terms of game mechanics) to a FPS game *and* make it play well always scores a few points in my book. =)
My memory is spotty though, and I know I've overlooked promising mods - I still need to try Gilgamesh's GhostHunt, for instance

Maybe Minion Arena is what I'm thinking of. Was that the chess game?
Urre: I made a map a few months after we started playing I think so it doesn't count. I don't think the map was very good gameplay wise anyway.

1. Grass
2. TaoV
3. Prydon Gate
4. QRally
5. AirQuake
Haven't played most of them for a very long time, but I guess they have to be mentioned because of their originality. There are too many nice (in one way or another) mods to fit into such a short list, let alone rank them.
Normally, I would have chosen some 'regular' Quake SP partial conversions...

If we are going by the Officially Obvious rule, I will not list TF even though its Quake form is one of the best things ever.
So that aside then.
1. Storm the Castle
2. Skyblazer
3. Get Rich Quake
4. Zerstorer
5. Hurried Descent
To be honest, its really hard to pick 5... ...and you know, Quake has made some damn amazing mods. I want to go play some now, unfortunately I've got 5 hours left in my shift.

Ooh, I forgot Hurried Descent. That should replace id1 in my list because id1 isn't even a mod, ha ha! What's Skyblazer?

Conquest by Wazat - I had a lot of fun with it when I first discovered it.
dpmod by LordHavoc - Crazy fun. It's like Quake should have been to begin with. Crazy fast paced, with some new and awesome additions...
Minion Arena by Coffee - Totally different than your usual mod, really fun duel type thing.
Reinforcer by Quake Matt - Creative and pretty darn fun to play, especially on custom maps. I'm still hoping he'll make a Reinforcer 2 that's more complete.
Toss up between TAoV and Prydon Gate - For being so different and well done. They're both very good, and completely fresh as far as Quake mods go.
I wanted to put Beyond Belief in there, but it's barely a mod and its merit is more as a map pack (I guess the mod bits were fairly cool too though).
