Should the QuakeWiki Move To MediaWiki

Postby FrikaC » Tue Oct 30, 2007 3:52 pm

How about if it means page history is lost?

C++ should be called D? There is a D you know.

The page history being lost isn't important yet.

Considering the information is referential rather than necessarily creative, yeah page history isn't so important.

The biggest nuisance would probably pages not being able to start with a lowercase letter. Man I hate that. Although it is semi-fixable. It also doesn't let pages start with an underscore (for cvar pages such as _cl_name, which now becomes 'Cl_name'), since underscores are spaces in wiki page names.

BTW I started working on this...

I got it figured out and set up the templates for these articles to use so the title displays properly, but the URL will still be something weird like 'www.host.com/wiki/Snd_mixahead' for _snd_mixahead.

Who voted no?

Sajt: sounds fine to me, url's aren't as important as the content. It's more than good enough if the title and in-wiki links can start with underscores or lowercase letters

Sajt: did I give you access to the Quake Wiki webspace? Do you want it?

Why not have the wiki on I3D, and put a redirect on the old adress?

Why do I want it? What's there?

Boy this is taking a while. I wonder if I should put it online before I finish porting over all the old stuff, in case some people want to help.

I'm hesitant, because most people will do it 'wrong'.

Carefully define 'right' and then give limited access for a few days followed by proper access?

http://quakery.quakedev.com/qwiki

It took over an hour to upload phpmyadmin and mediawiki by ftp (all those small files... if only i could have unzipped it on the server through a shell...) and move the database crap. And it's all gonna have to happen again when it moves to its final destination (wherever that will be), but oh well, there she is.

I've added most of the articles on the main page, and all the console variables that were in the old one (see http://quakery.quakedev.com/qwiki/index.php/List_of_console_variables). Complete with fancy infobox and templates and crap. That took a while.

It looks like anyone can signup (email authentication is off, I don't know if QuakeDev even allows PHP to send emails). So have fun.

Note that for now I'm basically just trying to port the old stuff directly over, though I have been fixing some mistakes and other craziness. Once that's done I'll start some original work...
