You should explain some of these terms to people like me who don't play MMOs.

And for the record, I imagine Quake as a single entity, but mysterious and omnipotent, and Shub is one of its endless meager lieutenants. Quakeguy is stuck in the nether realms for an eternity of fragging and respawning and killing Shub!
F. A. Špork, an enlightened nobleman and a great patron of art, had a stately Baroque spa complex built on the banks of the River Labe.

to raid : act of getting a bigger group than the traditional (normal group for this game is 4 players, raid at 8 to 16 players) to fight harder and tougher enemies that a normal group would easily die attempting to do.

raid boss : insanely powerful boss that requires a raid to conquer.

dungeon : contains enemies that are tougher than normal solo'able enemies. these enemies require a normal group to kill.

Same to me, but the cool thing about Quake lack of a real background story is exactly that: anyone willing to do something (mod, map, monster, etc) can imagine almost anything and it will fit more or less in the ambient.

Too bad to him, good for us. :D
I know FrikaC made a cgi-bin version of the quakec interpreter once and wrote part of his website in QuakeC :) (LordHavoc)
