Quake SP survey- kinda spammesque

Postby TargetPractice » Sat Mar 03, 2007 5:34 am

Some questions I'm curious about:

1. How often do you* play vanilla Quake SP?
2. What difficulty setting?

*- Plural, not singular.

I would've generated a poll, but even with 3 options for the first question, I would have had to generate 12 poll responses.

Why do I ask? Curiosity struck and an idea of mine needs input.

And a third:
3. If the common term for unwanted tripe on the web is 'spam', would it be appropriate to consider highly desired content 'pork riblets'?(Unless you're Jewish, hindu, or elsewise don't want to eat them. At which point, what would you say instead?)

1. Whenever a new map or mod comes out I want to play - or just at random times with an odd combination of maps or mods and fooling around.
2. Normal or Hard.

3. No, any true Quake fan knows that the greatest thing ever is the boneless pork riblet meal from Banquet and should never be considered tripe. If you want to move on from spam, may I recommend Quiznos?

1. Only when a new map comes out that catches my interest. Unless it's a mod, in which case can be quite frequent. (though it wouldn't qualify because you said vanilla quake, not mods.)

2. Hard. Like there's any other respectable skill to play vanilla quake on. :P

3. /me shrugs

1. More than 5 times a week. Mostly maps I did not play before or maps I love. Often id1 too (when I am bored).
2. Normal on new maps, Nightmare on id1, often Hard.

Im not a fan of Quake's style of nightmare. I prefer more monsters and such modifications, not just higher pain threshold.

Nightmare for me too, although I don't play very often at the moment - too many other games right now!

My problem with nightmare is that it's retarded. I mean, here I am standing here, quite obviously out of that ogre's grenade range, and he's just standing there like a moron constantly firing grenades, as if he was some dumb ass spikeshooter or turret.

1) once every few months, when a new map, or episode comes out, and sometimes when I notice something in the back log of levels that I have not played yet that suits my fancy -- ohh, a fancylad! I will play two or three days of Quake before I get it worked out of my system. I revisit Zerstörer and Scourge once a year in the month of June. The same with Bal's Nehahra levels.

2) I check the size of a level in megabytes before playing, If it is a small to medium level I play it in hard, if it is medium to large, I play it on normal setting.

3) my recipe for Buffalo Wings

1 cup of Texas Pete, use tobasco if you have to, but add 2 tablespoons of butter to get it similar in flavor to Texas Pete.
1/2 cup of Teriyaki sauce, any store brand will do.
16 oz can of pineapple bits

mix together and put to the side.

shake your wings (unfrozen, uncooked pieces) in a bag of flour, salt and pepper and fry in Crisco until crisp, at this point, pour the sauce over the wings and simmer them until the sauce thickens pretty well, about thirty to forty five minutes.

Dump the contents on a large cooking sheet and cook at 325 for at least 90 minutes to two hours, check for a beautiful crystaline sheen of a crust and that is when they are perfect.

not really a safe method of determining a map's size beforehand. :)

I agree, it isn't a perfect system. Some small maps with a lot of detail can eat up megabyte space just as quickly as huge terrain maps with large scale fortressess sitting on top of them can.
