mixing licenses

Postby Spirit » Tue Feb 13, 2007 3:28 pm

Can I mix licenses for some standalone game? IE I use Darkplaces (GPL), much of Quake's QC (what license is that?) and a lot of "feel free to use it, could probably become Creative Commons). Can I just include a list which files are which license or something like that?

GPL requires all parts of the distribution to be GPL. Quake QC comes in two versions, a GPL version and an unlicensed version. Anything unlicensed can ofcourse be turned into GPL, but not the other way around.

You can however "mix" licenses by splitting your distribution into separate zip archives or whatever, if the GPL part works by itself, which is a subject of discussion in itself (does DarkPlaces classify as a "working" GPL program without qc or any content, considering it runs without even if you can't do anything).
