Ever heard about... "The French Conversion Pack"?

Postby CocoT » Thu Nov 16, 2006 11:33 am

Hey there, I tumbled upon an old pack totally by chance and I thought I'd share the link... Maybe this could be the beginning of a series of "Heard about?" threads, what do you think? Everytime we find something we think most others haven't heard about, with working download links and all, we create a thread and talk about it!

Anyway, here is the link:

http://www.penofchaos.com/quake/fcp/fcp1.htm#files

And, yes, it's in French, I know. You need to download the last two files, the one being the first second one without sound.
The aim of that pack was apparently to create a "french-friendly" version of Quake, with new sounds and messages.
While obviously it might be of limited interest for most of you (except if you're french-speaking and/or like french swear words), the pack also comes with a nice number of maps, some of which not so bad at all, I found, particularly when you think this pack is almost as old as Quake itself! It was created in 1997... I'm even surprised it's still up :P

Addition : Oh, I also found this : http://www.penofchaos.com/quake/zip/nurgpak.zip
Okay, now, that's really for the most courageous among you :P It's a sound pack where all the sounds are made by voices (in French). So you hear a voice go "bling bling bling" when the grenade bounces, or say "good stuff" when it picks up a weapon, "boom!" when something explodes, and so on. Really goofy, in a silly-mods-for-Quake kind of way. Oh, and, by the way, you'll need to unpack this, the author screwed up and forgot to put the "sound" folder.

Reminds me of the Canadian mod where they tacked ', eh?' onto the end of EVERY print in the game :)
F. A. Špork, an enlightened nobleman and a great patron of art, had a stately Baroque spa complex built on the banks of the River Labe.

Hehehe, that's funny :)
Yeah, this one does the whole translation job. And it's goofy, but not dumb, which is why I also thought I'd post about it...
