Well?

Whatchya'll gon do 'bout it?

Every year, this Mod of the Year Awards thing comes around, and at the end of it all, some Half-Life 2 or Unreal-series mod wins. Yeah, I'm sure people will put down Quake, saying "it's old" or "HL2 ROXORZ" or "ooh, shiny", but I'd like to see us at least make a push. Nexuiz could probably do well (though it's sort of surpassed mod status). The voting ends in January when the winner is finally announced.

I gave up on moddb. It's nothing but people fantasizing about making HL2 total conversions.

They post their ideas and then try to recruit 15 modellers, 3 coders, 6 mappers and a sound guy. They will be the "mod leader", meaning they'll do nothing.

For a while I tried educating them about real modding, but I gave up.

That place is a wasteland.

You missed my point. moddb.com and PlanetQuake are rather well known whether we like it or not (hence my link to the other thread). I think we should have a presence at these places, despite the HL2'ers, and I thought the Mod of the Year awards were a good opportunity to do it.

Fanboyz will be fanboyz. That said, I'd hate to see someone go to PQ or moddb looking for Quake modding help, finding none, and resorting to the runner-up most moddable game (HL or HL2, since they're based on Quake, #1) and missing out on the advantages of our community.

It's kind of funny, I got a e-mail from them mentioning the event not to long before entar made this topic.

I don't really think I'm gonna do anything regarding it. moddb bores me, and is probably the one thing whose mention makes me want to not mod.

January is too close for me to be able to show anything i reckon. Yes guys i'm still around, and with a brand new mod (total conversion).

I don't see moddb holding any kind of reward a reason to rush things... i'd rather take my time. I guess it's just for mods that are already kicking around.

Mauvebib is right, lots of people that have no idea about modding who make pages showing 'descriptions' but no images no nothing... looking for a team while they just sit back and be "lead". A lead in the games industry that does what role they want to do... just doesn't exist. If someone tries to do it, they get fired. Simple.

Oh and i just want to say HI EVERYONE! It's been quite a long time since i've done any modding for quake but hopefully i can backup all my talk with something good, it'll take me a couple of months to get a pic together as i've only just started it. FINGERS CROSSED!

Hey Electro, nice to see you back. I'll be glad to support your venture in a specific manner; namely, helping you find shnobbles.

For the MotY awards at ModDB, I put together a little media release (which has been displayed elsewhere, but I guess I forgot to post here...)

aaaaand, a video: http://entar.quakedev.com/vr2mod/vr2-promo1.mpg
EDIT: I recommend watching it in Windows Media Player or some other video player that can adjust brightness and contrast.

Be sure to visit my mod profile, vote for me, blah blah blah...

You know.. if there's one thing the Quake community doesn't have, it's a good taste in music. All Quake videos seemed to be scored with either filthy Euro trance trash, or retarded hardcore/metalcore...

I'd have used something else, but it's so hard to find something legal. Luckily I found someone that let me use that music.

Video is too dark for my tastes, but that second shot there, the one in e1m2 intermission looks quite cool.

Sajt - Fern/Fr3n, a Quake mapper, did the music actually =)
