I know FrikaC made a cgi-bin version of the quakec interpreter once and wrote part of his website in QuakeC (LordHavoc)

I think Romero's happy in California right now. He'd most likely work for a studio in CA than just Id Software again - especially not when there's clearly an 'embrace extend extinguish' going on.

I don't believe Carmack will stay on id after his work on the OR project. And I agree, things are very different from that time to work out.
