Normally I would say they are just bluffing and trying to capitalize on the potential cash cow, but in this case I suspect Zenimax has some legs (at least from the legal point, not discussing if it's fair or not). Carmack *was* working on VR for them when he stumbled on the Occulus project, and also they showcased an early OR prototype in a Zenimax booth running a modified Doom 3. All this without mentioning that IP clauses granting rights in everything you create while working to a company are standard on tech job contracts; finally Zenimax was already looking for compensations before the Facebook deal, so it's not a opportunistic move.

Probably FB will throw their lawyers over Zenimax and eventually pay a pile of cash to Zenimax.
I know FrikaC made a cgi-bin version of the quakec interpreter once and wrote part of his website in QuakeC :) (LordHavoc)
