No CD audio tracks

There!!! An excuse.

It is interesting that it was the community choice, with the others being the excellent Rome Total War and the overrated Modern Warfare.

Only the Quake CD version has box art, manual, and of course secret Episode V.

Does Steam add any kind of DRM to Quake?

But the 75% sale's over.

I'll be excited for a Sam3 bfe sale though. That 85% was tickling earlier.

Already have the retail box. :D

That said, $2.49 was indeed a bargain.

Leileilol is right about the lack of CD tracks, as there is something to be said for being able to start up quake and hear the extremely disturbing and simultaneously awesome theme song...

of course there's an excuse:
buying it from steam requires installing steam.

It did not get any less true over the years, did it? Steam basically established and accustomed DRM in the form of at least the phoning home when launched. How/Why is that ok nowadays?

Ok appstore but yeah drm sucks :( use steamemu to play your game after you used steam to get it.
I had to use that trick once i bought orange box cause my internet was Down and the darn thing refused to let me play unless i was online (no offline mode did not Work as you need to log in atleast once).
Sadly its here to stay (RIAA forced) sigh.

The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) has nothing to do with Steam. You can wholeheartily blame Valve.

Because the other DRM that phones home actually screws you over (uPlay's paid subscription of downloading the games you already bought on uPlay for example, and then there's searchyourharddrive Origin).

And offline mode worked for me. Enable "Save account credentials" first.

DMCA not RIAA sorry but yeah steam is likely to blame for its use.

Believe me i tried to save an offline profile but the message was you need to go online for that :S i kid you not. The problem as far as i could guess was that steam wanted to make sure the copy was mine and since it had newer been activated online i was stuck.

Newer versions of steam might have fixed that but at the time atleast there was nothing i could do besides use steamemu and i had to borrow one of my friends internet to get it then drive 120 km back with a cd
with the 2 files needed on it needless to say i was pissed . Took me about two months to get internet in my new flat since they had to dig in new cables, the old ones had rotted away so where useless.

So some might say why didnt i bring my pc then to create the offline file heh would have been a bit of a hazzle since i have no car i drive a motorbike and my pc is a hightower model so besides looking funny as hell it might not have been the best stunt i could pull off :P I could more or less read the newsline "man killed by his own PC hehe".
