QExpo and You

Postby FrikaC » Wed Jun 14, 2006 6:12 am

I'm wondering how active Qexpo will be this year, so as a little preview, let's do a poll.

hopefully releasing, but I can't promise anything. RL gets in the way a good bit of the time. (gf/work/band/etc)

FTE QuakeWorld will have a release on July 10 if that counts.

I may release two personal mods, one for Q1 and the other for Q2, so everyone can make fun of how horrible a modder I am and all that. Although, what's the status of Q2 and this QExpo?

This QExpo is officially in celebration of Quake, the original one, as this expo exists for its 10th anniversary. All things will be geared towards the first Quake. However, Q2 and Q3A will be allowed, and booth updates of significance for such will receive news posts, but the major push will be for the first Quake.

Why not wait up a week for the expo?

I'll be doing a new Vr2 release, an SP map release, and hopefully a Quake mod. And of course, I'll be sure to browse around the rest of the Expo and see what everyone else is cooking up.

Unfortunately I've got nothing to release. I'll visit, of course, but more than that I've got nothing to offer I'm afraid.

I'm not going to commit to much of anything. I will be at the very least present though. At best, I'll have at least one goodie for release, at worst, info and maybe a tutorial or two.

*sigh* I plan to only be previewing (screenshots, videos only) something at Qexpo!

TAoV is hard to complete, I'll probably just be pimping out new stuff for it as I work on it the same way I do at DCEmu. If I find something on the side to release such as an old mod or whatever then I'll put it up.

I'll also join in some events as long as my schedule allows it.

Gyro 2.1 release for me. There's a couple of features I've thought of since the 2.0 release, so it'd be nice to get them sorted in time.

Also, a newer, much improved version of Panzer and a slightly improved version of Dinner with the Pope. Nothing major, I'm afraid, but perhaps I'll think of something else over the next couple of weeks.

I'm pushing to have a test release of my Symbiote mod for Qexpo. Realisticaly, two maps (some pics

-texturing comes later), replacement models for the Player, Enforcers, Grunt, Scourge, Drone, and Zombies, and the weapons will be ready for it. A new Mega-Enforcer variant called the Phaze-Enforcer (I've always hated the original field design on those monsters) should also be ready in time but is currently still in development.

Some of the things I'd like to include, Sag Doll and a full Gyro 2.0 implementation will be further along the development chain though gyro entity brush effects modifying Peroxide's Extras code and some weapon enhancements should still be a realistic goal for the QExpo release.

Sure hope you didn't use minlight to light that map :)

I'll try and slap together some sort of Qradio-related booth for Qexpo.

some minlight, but not much -- set at 30; I feel the lighting is the best looking part of the map but I can only take credit for the placement of the light sources, not for the finese of the compilation settings.

Finesse is not using minlight at all...
but anyway!

Yeah, I'll be having something or other to release at the QExpo, not exactly sure what yet... either one thing or the other thing.

And I'll be back on board to help with QExpo itself. In one day, I will have plenty of free time, for several weeks :D

Depends how complicated your light sourcing is - if you've got vast areas that are meant to be gloomy that a lovely bounce-lighting model would happily accommodate but you don't have one, then minlight is reasonable. It's just one of those mapping rules that you have to know when you can break :) I think the lighting on those shots looks pretty good.
