I don't know exactly what you mean by that Cheapy, but my guess is "One of the motivations behind getting this archive together is that independant webhosting isn't cutting the mustard"
We lost Qexpo 2001 and 2003 when Horn stopped paying the bill for example. To lose the community archives would really suck.

that won't happen. I have a stable job.
even if something did happen, I pay in 6 month periods... so I'd have enough time to back it up.

Wow, splendid plan, Error
I agree with Frik, too, it'd be nice if such depositary did not offer the old (often crappy) files but the newer stuff, things from the last couple of years.
Bleh, UQC isn't listed on that Filefront site...
Error : How are going to keep warez uploaders away and other types of bandwidth stealers?

like cdrom.com... you will upload into the Incoming folder.
Then an admin will make sure they aren't warez or fake files and move them to the desired folder.

I was showing someone the basics of mapping, only to discover that Worldcraft site, TexMex site and a prefab map site are all down.
Down, was up yesterday ...

Maybe this is temporary or maybe not, but I think it is about time that every community starts "rescuing" stuff hosted by ANY site that is not part of the core community.

I don't think they're dumping these sites. I don't know it is temporary or not, but it seems that the addresses have just changed. For example: http://prefab.planetquake.gamespy.com/ ...
The same thing happened to my site, it is now available at http://cocot.planetquake.gamespy.com/ and the old address is gone. It is not really a problem for me, except maybe that it means that all old links to Neurotic Conversions will now cease to work...

Holy cow! That's a ton of links on your site and they even are update-to-date.
I'm not easily impressed, but damn ... I'm impressed!
You even have things like Trinca's waypoints site listed

I agree with some people on Inside3d complaining that there hasn't been much novelty involved since Quake2. Argh... what have our good 'ol shooters become? :-/
And which Inside3d would that be?
F. A. Špork, an enlightened nobleman and a great patron of art, had a stately Baroque spa complex built on the banks of the River Labe.
