Liberty!
I've taken some liberties, to get an archive up and going. This could be a temporary archive... when we do get one up, I will personally make sure everything is transferred over. I have created http://quake.errorabove.com. There is plenty of space (50000mb worth) and a good bit of bandwidth, so that shouldn't be a problem right off the bat. If it turns into a problem, I will upgrade my hosting capabilities.
In that archive, there will be an uploading script (soon) in the incoming folder. From that, you can choose your uploaded files. From that, an admin (hopefully I can find someone to help me with it) will move the files to the folder they belong in.
I think uploading scripts would be better than using an FTP client, because not everyone knows how to use the clients.
Feedback people.

idgames2 schmidgames2. idgames2 is well mirrored and consists of old rubbish. Primarily we want an archive of new things, since the folks at the community archives have ignored us for about 6 years. Error, if we do get a more permanent solution, don't abandon your achive, just provide a mirror.

I'd have to agree with FrikaC. While it's definately important to remember the good 'ol roots, one also has to keep one's eye on the present and future.
The past six years has definately seen some very nice mods and stuff come out. (*cough* Older versions of Fiend Hunter, when you still had Shubs rather than spawngates to face off against, had a few maps and the mod was actually rather stable for one example *cough*)

Yeah I believe I missed the intent of the post regarding idgames2, theres been so much talk of archiving as of late. But I do agree that we need an archive of current work, as right now we are at the mercy of a myriad of scattered sites that have no idea what they hold, and being a myriad, no one really knows where to look for anything.
That and theres the inherent problem that Quake seems to be currently in the hands of non-Quake fans who dont even realize it. Not quite as bad as say, Warner Brothers and the Blood community, but still, I dont like the position.

Can you keep that up for a long time without crapping out, though? Motivation behind independent web hosting is one of the main problems, too.
i should not be here
