project "oq_decrapify"

Postby leileilol » Fri Apr 07, 2006 12:13 am

basically trying to help contribute to openquartz while "ungaying" it up by doing things such as:

- new conchars that's actually readable at a low brightness setting
- redoing the player sounds
- reanimating the player
- replacing all of the weapons with "quake-ish but it's not quake" equivelants, centered
- make e1m7
- modeling and animating a new ogre (amazingly there isn't one yet)
- change the "bullet clip" ammo to spikes, not NIN'd
- redo the rather "blank" parts of gfx.wad and the gfx folder

so far:

- i've recorded the missing ambient sounds
- i've made a new v_shot
- i've made a new boss chthon

I tried Open Quartz and there are some things good about and some not so good.

I have to say I really like the player model and the armor. The weapons models seem to be a bit lacking and the health boxes aren't the greatest. I didn't check the sounds out yet.

I'm glad this project exists. I think combined with some custom made models and sounds floating out there, that a fully swapped out pak0.pak could easily be built that, while maybe not completely Quake-ish, would still be enjoyable and maybe even cooler.

The keys are nice as well... they're just not "Quake"

I didn't hear any sounds while playing, but this could have been my fault. Isn't there a Quake sound project somewhere? Could those possibly be incorporated into OpenQuartz?

The projects such as mindgrind sounds won't work as they don't comply with the GPL and they use stock audio. OpenQuartz already has sounds.

I read that sounds in Quake require a special terminator in the wav file. Any docs how to do this or does anyone know how this is done?

Whoever you heard that from is quite obviously talking out their butt-cheeks. I use cool edit all the time, and NEVER have to use any wierd ass terminators.
