Is the Quake1 Community slowly dying away?

It's a tricky topic.

It my roundup at qexpo, I firmly denied that quake was dying. Now I'm not so sure.

During and around qexpo last year Quake was big news again, people were modding and even new people were getting interested. However, since the end of qexpo I've barely played it at all, and I've done virtually no modding. Qexpo wore me out, and since I'd released DiD2 I didn't feel guilty about not modding. I'd released by big project and I could take a rest.

Except... I've not really started again. I keep meaning to make something new, and I keep meaning to finish fixing the bugs in DiD2, but I just haven't been able to bring myself to. Well, my PC died, which hasn't helped. It's difficult to work on DiD2 when my current machine won't run it.

So, yeah, I'd say quake is dying, but that doesn't mean it HAS to die. There are ways of rejuvinating it, as we've found in the past.

What we really need right now is a speedmod event, and one that as many people as possible will participate in. Something to get us going again.

Also QExpo could have some Quake playing tournaments with some neat prizes for the winners.

That's assuming there'll be a qexpo. Unless someone takes the reins soon it won't happen.

Maybe one of the mappers or players would take up the reins?

currently, I'm planning on hosting the speedmodding site on http://www.errorabove.com being that I have tons of webspace and bandwidth for it. It would be hosted here, but don't want hefty ammounts of ads on the site. Who does right?

The site needs scripting though, and I have no web dev skills

If anyone could be of service, please contact me through either email, irc, or private messages here.

Ive offered multiple times, so either Im really unwanted for the position or am magically ignored. Granted its been on irc when Ive done so...

But I am willing to take the reins for QExpo. SantaClaws has already begun coding the php for the site, Sajt has said he would help out, and Ive got a number of ideas which are to begin actualization this Friday (due to exams occuring tomorrow and Thursday).

F. A. Špork, an enlightened nobleman and a great patron of art, had a stately Baroque spa complex built on the banks of the River Labe.
