Steel-Storm
Anyone play Steel-Storm yet? I just downloaded the first episode and so far it's been interesting. The art direction is amazing, it's kind of kind of like the Borderlands and Warsow art, prominent edges and what not. I like it enough to have ordered the second episode.
p.s. does darkplaces have a cvar to show what your fps is in game?

I've never heard of this until now.
I played the first three levels or so. Pretty decent game, has a few bugs/glitches that kill the game for me, though. (if you die after picking up a new power up you lose it and you cannot get it back, ever)
The art style I'm not a fan of at all, I've never liked that style. This is just preferences, though.
But, the game itself is not bad, decently polished, plays okay.
Get's boring after 5 minutes, though. No variation at all.

I'm not going to be running this game again anytime soon.
Already hit the uninstall button. :\

What license has this game? How can it be sold? It's based on Darkplaces, isn't it?
I'm just curious, as I have my own pet project, also based on Darkplaces.

Alright, didn't know someone played the game after all
(after 31k of downloads)
@ Feared: "has a few bugs/glitches that kill the game for me, though. (if you die after picking up a new power up you lose it and you cannot get it back, ever) "
That is not a glitch sire. It's a punishment for having arms growing from wrong place
Certainly, the game is no MineCraft and require set of special skills, but once you manage to pass through a mission and not die, you get to keep that weapon forever.
@ gnounc : Not demo, it's a fully fledged game. Thing of it as of Quake shareware.
@ Chip: SS Ep I can not be sold as I specifically forbid that in my license. However, Ep II will be sold (or rather been selling). Nothing prevents you from selling GPL apps.
@ leileilol : That's what you think. It's all wrong. The game as whole is under a proprietary license which refers to GPL and CC. That means when you get the game, you have to comply with my license. However, if you decide to rip some art assets and use it for your own project, you sure can do that while abiding by CC-BY-NC-SA 3.0. You can also grab the engine, as it's DP in it's pure form, thus - GPL.

Why you're comparing your game to MineCraft is beyond me.
I'm curious on what these oh so 'special' set of 'skills' are because the game was too easy, boring, and repetitive. An autistic child could steamroll through this game without any issues.
Oh and glitch or not, it's an annoyance that does not make any sense. I would expect for the power-up to respawn or for my character to be able to keep it after death.
You need to add more enemys, puzzles, power-ups and variation to each of these things. Right now it feels like a mere shell of a game.

The world is a harsh place and if people only gave him positive feedback then he would not learn or understand what he did wrong with his project if/when it fails, would he?
I treat him how I would like to be treated. Okay that might be a lie, I was a little more aggressive towards him because he seem'd pretentious.
I don't know what balls have to do with finishing a project.
It requires patience and determination.
I do not wish to cause harm on him, I'd recommended anyone to try this game out for themselves.

@ Feared : "The world is a harsh place" - you said it man. So stop crying and master your skills. Why don't you complain: "Ohh. Playing Quake online sucks. I always get killed." ?
There is a <Restart Mission> button btw.. So if you suck, restart.. And do it until you stop sucking at the game.
To summarize, yes, the world is a harsh place, indeed. Learn how to survive
"You need to add more enemys, puzzles, power-ups and variation to each of these things."
Oh, I am sorry, I forgot to consult with you on how should my game look and feel like.
If you want puzzles, play Hexen. SS was never intended to have any kind of puzzles.
"..he would not learn or understand what he did wrong with his project.."
And how is that determined? Just because out of 31k people who downloaded the game and liked it, 100 people don't like it, doesn't mean something wrong with the game. That's how it it. I can not please all people. And practice shows that as soon as developer tries pleasing masses, the project fails.

I like how you skip quite a bit of my message.
I also like how you assume just about everyone who downloaded your game liked it, as well.
Get off your damn step stool, you're not a winner and there is no first prize. I actually had some respect for you until this post.
It feels like there are words being put into my mouth, and you're not understanding what I am saying.
Oh and you do know how to quote properly, yes?
