And don't hold your breath awaiting for this one.
I know FrikaC made a cgi-bin version of the quakec interpreter once and wrote part of his website in QuakeC

Are you implying that id tech 5 will not be released?frag.machine wrote:And don't hold your breath awaiting for this one.

As I said, don't hold your breath. It may even happen, but not in a foreseeable future.

Wrong question. You should first be pondering when the current licenses of the idtech5 will expire. And after that, you should ask yourself if Zenimax/Bethesda are commited to support the OSS community in the same way id used to do.

not even 2001 is the foreseeable future.
my god its full of brown.
anyway, 2011 is probably about two years away. A lot can happen in two years, like the time between the release of fallout and fallout2.

Ummmm - idtech 5 is actually the Rage engine you realise...
OK, I get that we're now talking about idtech 4 (Doom 3) and whether or not a GPL release is now going to happen. Aside from the Zenimax thing (to which I would say "hold off on being paranoid there until you actually get some info, folks") there's also the matter of Creative's patent on the z-fail shadow volume technique to be worked around.

Speaking of that...
id Software releases Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Enemy Territory Source Code
So hey, maybe we can keep our hopes after all.
And hey again, maybe they are even reading us!
