Defeat In Detail 2

Postby MauveBib » Sun Aug 21, 2005 6:29 pm

Well, it's out. For those cupboard dwellers who don't know what it is, DiD2 is a standalone RTS game using the DarkPlaces engine. I've released the first beta for the end of Qexpo, and it can be found http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/planetquake/elf/did2.zip.

It's not performing well enough for me to judge it, but it certainly seems promising. Will play it in detail ( :D ) later at my brothers place, he has a better computer than I do.

It's not designed to run on your wind up PC Urre!

I've got the cl_prydoncursor mostly working now, so that'll be in the next version, which should help.

Turrets crash it, once that's fixed I'll actually play it more and give input =)

I finally got around to doing a bit more work on DiD2 lately. Woo.

I've implemented a clientside cursor, AI improvements, lots of bugfixes and am 90% done with making the camera anglable.

I've scrapped the fog of war, since it was halving the FPS.

I'm also in the process of implementing LOD for the models.

I'll post up some pictures tonight, and hopefully have another release very soon...

In these pictures you can see the dynamic camera, unit selection/unit health colormoding, clientside cursor and LOD turning units into dots in the extreme distance, as well as some plasma troopers I've created using the new unit scripting system.

Congrats, MauveBib. Looks awesome! I can't wait to download and try it.
I know FrikaC made a cgi-bin version of the quakec interpreter once and wrote part of his website in QuakeC :) (LordHavoc)

Another couple of shots showing off some of the new particle work, which is scriptable in the external unit files.
