Unity, Google and You.
For some weird reason, I have the urge to see people making games using 2D and 3D frameworks for google's "Native Client".
Since "Native Client" is mostly click&play (like that Webstart java thing), it make it really easy and sexy for the consumers (yea, I have actually said that). Having a "App Shop" thingie, will make this even more Sexy for everyone.
I can see from here that the Unity engine will prove to be something like the "standard" for this type of stuff. But somehow maybe make sense for Quake to step there too (mostly because my meaningless lazy game dev skills let me make a tic tac toe in 3d game).

OTOH, for a casual game like Urre's strapbomb car race, it's a quite interesting option.
I know FrikaC made a cgi-bin version of the quakec interpreter once and wrote part of his website in QuakeC
