I have done research before and I did the research again. My results show that no one has found a solution to my problem.

I did manage to get some ATI drivers to work.

They read my card as a 32mb ATI Rage Ultra.

These drivers weren't from the ATI site but they were ATI drivers.

They have had no impact on being able to run Gl Quake World at all.

The odd part is that FTEQW will load up but the lag and fps is unplayable, yet GL QuakeWorld won't load up and Software QuakeWorld will.

As Baker is fond of saying, there are a LOT of things wrong with GLQuake (including GLQW) and any one of these could be preventing it from working, whereas FTE will have a more mature OpenGL codebase thus avoiding most or all of these problems.

My guess is that you are now most likely going through a software emulation path, and that the drivers you now have may not even support hardware accelerated OpenGL.

Can you try one of the D3D8 engines again? Don't worry about QW for the moment, use the DirectBengt engine instead. This is just a testing stage that will enable us to get a better handle on the problem.

OK, my confusion, I thought the driver he had gotten working was something new.

I'm getting mystified by this to be honest. Have you run the GPU caps viewer (http://www.geeks3d.com/20091228/gpu-cap ... available/) yet? This might pull out some info on what's going on with your driver.

The driver I did get working was different.

I tested again with direct3d and the gl clients, my results were the same.

It installed but it showed no difference.

After installing a bunch of differn't things for directx I did manage to get the D3DQuake from

http://www.quaketastic.com/cgi-bin/file ... ws/engines

to run!

Its awesome!

Horray!

My problems are over!

I bought a used NVidia GeForce 4 MX 440 from Craigslist for $10!

It works like a charm.

cool

there's one thing worse than bad drivers. and that's bad drivers for now-unsupported hardware. :)
