Forum Question: New Posts

Postby metlslime » Tue Dec 08, 2009 3:15 am

Just a simple forum question:

When i see an orange folder icon for a forum, that means that there are new posts in that forum, right?

But, sometimes when i click on the link to the Forum, NONE of the threads in that forum have an orange icon, so how do i know which threads have the new posts?

Hi metlslime. Been a long time. :)

I used to get that bug with the forums too, though I don't know what I did to fix it (other than making sure I'm signed in). Have you tried clicking on the top thread to see if the last post's date is indeed since your last visit? I wonder if it's just the main page that's wigging out.

ah...

after more experimentation i think the problem is that "new" just means "updated since your last visit" and "your last visit" changes as soon as you reload the forum page. So when you start digging into the forum, at some point it says "okay, your last visit is no longer yesterday, it is now 2 minutes ago" and since there are no posts in the last two minutes, suddenly everything becomes "not new". There are still orange icons on the front page becuase it's cached by the browser.

So it doesn't actually store a "last visited" date or "last viewed" post per-thread, it's just a single global date per user?
