Because it's not really abandonware due to it's author being a meanie. (i.e. he's still selling it, despite no longer supporting or making updates to it.)

abandonware is not a legal definition. Technically downloading abandonware is still copyright infringement, just willfully ignored.

If it's still for sale it's not considered abandonware anyway.

Google is all-knowing.

Too be honest these guys will always "tow the line", while (I suspect) cynically having a copy of everything Quake related on their own HD's. It's an attitude that no longer has any base in reality. The Quake 1 (yeah, I said it lolz) scene is microscopic. Nobody is watching.

I'm not advocating warez btw. I'm saying you all knew the file was "out there". You could have just suggested a Google search instead of being elitist.

*grabs popcorn.

With Blender able to export MDLs, and Quaded around the corner, I wouldn't have any reason to suggest the piracy of QME.

..It is?! Haven't heard much(if any) mention of Quaded progress in ages by FrikaC...

..I would love to see it finished and released, but Frik is a busy man don't hold your breathe for Quaded. Stick with tried and true QME until such time... or try to learn Blender and deal with whatever plugins you need I guess if you have that much time on your hands...

..If you where to "buy" a nice model editor for Quake type games (and tons more) then make it Milkshape, NOT QME...
