Games workshop has quite a liberal outlook on mods; They allow them as long as there's no mixing of IP.

I looked up their policy a couple of years back when some guys on moddb where talking about doing a warhammer 40000 mod. I was gonna warn them about foxing but looked up the policy first, and was pleasantly surprised. As long as the mod is a TC solely using their IP (and doesn't slander them etc) they're fine with it, but they don't allow mixed IP like just sticking some of there IP into stock quake.

Can we assume that the following part of PlanetQuake is "safe"?

ramshackle is using a Java applet for the navigation, the links are all in the (HTML) source code though. I already grabbed it just need to HTMLise it. :\

Oh, I see. Thanks for the info, Spirit :)
Oh, and, by the way, I realized I did QPP even though you had it listed as planned, I hadn't seen it. I fixed two of the four linking errors (the other two being an email address and a site that does not exist anymore), the website was salvaged rather easily (compared to others)

(and sorry about the crash, Error ;))

The Quake soldiers .com guy is a massive wanker.
Look at the sites he mirrored, they all have Google advertisements embedded now.

Get lost, you parasite.

Sorry for the potty mouth.

I strongly oppose advertisements and in my opinion embedding some into other people's work is an abomination.

Mmm... yeah, it's a little problematic. On the one hand, if that means a little income that will secure the sites being online, it's not a bad thing. On the other hand, though, I agree that the very concept of making money, even just a little, through sites whose authors have not been warned is not cool.

As far as my own leeching "work" is concerned, I must admit that I probably do a lot less reshaping than you do, Spirit. I don't take down the IGN ads and don't replace old download links by new ones. I do try to fix missing pictures or pages whenever I can, though.

Google ads

Not much different from the PQ banners really... If it helps financing the extra bandwidth, why not.

1. You should replace/remove the PQ banners, because they will be gone after August 31.

2. Ads in pages should blend in and should be very discrete. I already have 1.2Gb of website data downloaded. A host should live, too.

3. If you make him remove he ads in the pages, he might create a frameset with an ad on top and the actual website at the bottom. SO that the ad is not embedded in the website, and everything is legal.

4. The owners did not pay for PH hosting, so PQ inserted ads. The owners did not pay for their websites being saved and hosted somewhere else. So this gives Soldiers the right to embed ads. I would do the same.

Everything has a price in this world. Even good intentions.
